N64 repair and upgrades

My old Nintendo 64 (NTSC / Hong Kong region) didn’t start, black screen, turns out almost all electrolytic capacitors were bad.

This is the board with caps removed.

Here’s the board recapped.

After this I replaced the old “RGB by wire mod” with a proper RGB mod board featuring a THS7374 amp and bought a SummerCart 64 which is open source:

The SummerCart 64 works well to load games/roms, I recommend it. Before this I used a Doctor V64jr 512mbit but it requires a compatible parallel port (EPP mode) which is hard to find these days.

I also had to replace the CR2032 batteries in my n64 game paks (memory cards) using a spot welder.

Not a great spot weld, the old clips are bent out of shape after removing the old battery, but it worked after I soldered it in.
